Sinergantara Association, currently working Research on Open Data in Developing Countries with Web Foundation (United Kingdom), with Open Knowledge Foundation (Germany) recently made a visit to ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) Campus to build open data collaboration among civil societies, government, and universities. Realization of Open Data is to improve Open Data usefulness in supporting better public services, budget utilization transparency, better development planning, and to encourage business sector to enable them making business decisions using data from government.
Executive Director of Sinergantara, Ilham Cendekia Srimarga, described the importance of open data realization in contributing for good governance and preparation of Bandung government in particular, as best practice of government digitalization that supports the municipality’s performance. “Open Data realization may be started from encouraging civil society to provide data access, in terms of opening the access and providing easier format. The process can only occur if civil society makes positive efforts that do not confront government. Collaborative efforts are needed,” said Ilham in classroom of School of Electronic Engineering and Informatics, Software Engineering and Data Science Group of ITB.
Dr. Saiful Akbar from ITB made similar comment. He said university is in position of providing stimulus for technology development in innovating in government and society. The innovation can only be realized with collaborative efforts.
In this occasion, Daniel Dietrich from Open Knowledge Foundation Germany views the cooperation of NGO and university is very good and often succeeds in other countries, such as experience in Berlin (Germany). ITB, Web Foundation, and Sinergantara spot a very good opportunity for making Bandung Municipality a pioneer of Open Data implementation in Indonesia; and very likely, a champion of Open Data.
